Having trouble with Win 7/8 All-in-one

Postby schuc69 » November 5th, 2012, 5:55 pm

Hi all

I am running the latest SARDU(2.0.5) and using both new(2) and one older iso for Windows 7 AIO and none seem to work properly once I create the USB stick from SARDU. Note that the older iso I referred to has been used with an older version of SARDU and is working fine on a different USB stick. I have fully recreated the usb within sardu and the sardu environment is unmodified. All the Antivirus/Utilities/Extra/Windows Recovery disks seem to work fine so far...it's just the AIO install for Win7 (and Win8, actually).

Selecting the Win7 AIO install from the SARDU usb flashes a bunch of text across the screen that is too quick to read and then I see the following which just seems to stay there until I turn the pc off:
"A:\>c:\boot\barrosu.exe -inseven"

Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions to resolve? Thanks

You have FAT32 or NTFS?

If you have FAT 32 fix old barrosu (Menu USB)

Hi Davide and thanks for your reply.

My USB stick is FAT32. Is NTFS ok to use now? I know you always said to only use Fat32 so that's what I've been doing.

Ok, I will try that when I'm home later. That would be great if this is all that is needed and then at least the Win7 AIO will work. Is there a known issue with Win8 or do you think this may address that issue as well?

For more installer use only fat32.
Try to fix barrosu.
I'm releasing a new version in a few of days

I did as you suggested and used the USB->Fix old barrosu option and I am seeing the same behavior. The report tab says "Fixed old barrosu files", so it didn't seem to have any errors.

The laptop screen still just displays "A:\>c:\boot\barrosu.exe -inseven". I know when it works properly the screen to choose which version to install comes up very quickly. This has been sitting here 10mins so it just seems locked up.

Happy to try any other suggestions you may have. Thanks

The first boot SARDU can be slow, if you reboot works fine? Your memory is protected? If don't works fine try to reformat the USB with rmprepusb and rebuild your copy

I waited over 10 minutes before turning off the laptop so I would think that is plenty of time for SARDU to load. Would you agree?

I rebooted the laptop and tried again and got the same result.

I'm not sure what you mean by is the memory protected... Do you mean does the USB stick have a lock switch? If so, the usb does not have any lock switch. I can just plug it into any laptop I have tried and after the auto-driver load, it is accessible and seems to work fine. Note that it is a new 128Gig USB 3.0 thumbdrive preformatted to Fat32.

Hi there Davide. Good to hear from you.

I have a 128G flash drive which is formatted FAT32. Theoretically, FAT32 can support volumes up to 16TB(if the sector size was 4k). It's true that some of the older windows utilities(scandisk/fdisk) may have issues, but they should be able to interact the file system if created outside of those older environments. This drive does boot from both an x86 and an x64 laptop that I have here. All seems to work well so far except for the Win 7/8 AIO installers.

I hope that helps to clarify. Do you think the very large size of my thumbdrive is causing any issues with the Win 7/8 installers?

Question for you.. I haven't used rmprepusb yet, but it looks like an interesting utility. What does it do differently vs just formatting FAT32 via Windows?

Thanks

Hi schuc69,

FAT32 support's no single files over 4GB. This is also my problem by AllinOneWin7.ISO
I hope that helps to clarify.

I can only tell for me. I format my sticks when i use Windows with Windows format tool in explorer or with "diskpart" and i have no troubles with my transcend sticks and SARDU.

The problem is really the one file with over 4GB space.
In german forum i have exact the self problem

You can take a test with NTFS support in SARDU USB menu and tell us the result.
Important information: Don't change the SARDU screen or menu's when you want a fine working SARDU. 8-)
