Same thing happens, USB doesn't boot I get the message/FATAL: INT18: BOOT FAILURE

davidecosta wrote:IS a official untouched version? or customized?

I have said this on several occasion before, all ISO are unmodified & original!

davidecosta wrote:Making a search with google this error is for customized copy of xp

Where did you get that from? That is complete BS! INT18 Boot Failure messages have absolutely nothing to do with XP ISO, customized or not!

INT18 Boot Failure is a general BIOS error, it is shown when after a successful BIOS POST there is no device [HDD/CD/DVD] to hand over INT18 [boot] sequence off to; for example INT18 is passed by BIOS to the bootsector/MBR of a device to load a bootloader [NTLDR/bootmgr/syslinux/GRUB for Windows/Linux/BSD] so that it can load the OS Kernel.

Simply put INT18 is the BIOS code/process to read the bootsector/MBR [from a bootable device] & pass control from BIOS to bootloader, so it can load the OS!

Anyway, the reason why INT18 error occurs is because a bootable device [a boot sector/MBR in this case] is not found. Do you know why this is? Its very simple: SARDU forgets to mark the PRIMARY partition as ACTIVE! After I manually set the PRIMARY partition as ACTIVE I get BOOTMGR is missing. Guess why this is?
#1 because SARDU didn't write a bootsector/MBR with the correct code to point at the bootloader [GRUB/syslinux] which can load the OS or necessary files to run the system!
or
#2 SARDU didn't write the bootloader [GRUB/syslinux] to the disk at all!

I have reported this very same problem several times before, several of the earlier betas [of 2.0.4] had this same problem; we are only arguing in circular fashion & over semantics now!

After a few weeks I forget the individual problems, I'm sorry if I repeat the same questions
in my tests i formatted the pen drive with rmprepusb (i have only one partition in the pendrive, You?) and make the installer of XP. In my tests works fine. Other people have done wuth the some success.
You can send me your copy of XP for make my tests?

Only 1 PRIMARY partition [I use RMPrep also & it creates just 1 partition].

I'm confused too, because older version 2.0.2 [maybe 2.0.3] worked just fine! Its a clean ISO, I made from a DELL XP CD, so theres nothing extra/modified in it!

Sure I can send you the ISO, just let me know how you want me to upload it. If you don't have any way for me to upload the file, I can create a TORRENT & PM/email you the file or the MAGNET URI.

ALSO I forgot to mention:
Kaspersky RCD + Ubuntu 11.10 [NO XP Home SP3]
FATAL: INT18: BOOT FAILURE *PRIMARY partition is not marked ACTIVE/BOOTABLE by SARDU
BOOTMGR is missing *if I manually set the PRIMARY partition as ACTIVE/BOOTABLE

I get the same error every time with beta 11 & beta 12.

Can you try loading PartedMagic or another partitioning software & manually setting the PRIMARY partition [where SARDU is installed] as active & try again? Please let us know if you get a BOOTMGR is missing or something similar error after you're made the partition active. Thanks.

@davide: No i have not the same error in the self situation as shafferCsmith. I have only the same Error with the modded xp sp3. But it is true. The self XP-Version (modded xp sp3) runs in older SARDU-Versions.
@shafferCsmith: i load all tools and linuxdistri. The primary partition where SARDU is installed is active! i become no error with unmodded xp-version.

I think the mistake is in xp-version, not in the base or SARDU.

Please take for a test the older syslinux-version 3xx and try again.
