I think that SARDU, the toolbox in the palm of the hand rather than a suitcase full of dozens of rescue CDs, is a good, very good idea. So I began to communicate about it and promote it in my French pages about security and privacy.
The use of a USB key is preferred. It seems to me that some tools crash on some systems with very little RAM. It seems to me that they can use the USB memory as virtual memory. To check.
There are only six out of fifteen antivirus that work for me now.
- AOSS Rescue (PCTools) - Of no interest. Product expired. I managed to run it under Sardu 2.0.3 on a 32-bit single processor compromised but it saw nothing. It does not start at all on a 64-bit Muticore (or is it a problem with Sardu 2.0.4.3?)
- AVG Rescue - Ok (including update of signatures databases and program (in 2 minutes) if wired connection - I have not managed to initiate a connection via WiFi) - Very easy to use.
- Avira Antivir Rescue - Self check failed !
- BitDefender Rescue - Ok (including update of signature databases and program - wired connection) - A bit cryptic to use. Starts in 800 * 600, on a machine in full HD, says it is insufficient but does not allow to change!
- DrWeb Rescue - Cannot find boot device. Can't access tty; job control turned off
- eScan Rescue - Ok (update failed - signatures databases whithin the ISO are updated from time to time - during this test they were 40 days old)
- F-Secure Rescue - Rescue CD 3.14.44905 - Linux Kernel 2.6.28.4 - 3276 MB RAM found (on a machine with 8192 MB RAM and Core I7) Could not mount disk to /mnt-system. Can't access tty; job control turned off
- GData Rescue - Ok but the release was of 31 march 2011 (one years old at time of testing) - updates are available only to licensed GData
- Kaspersky Rescue - Kernel panic - Crash
- Panda Rescue - Aside from a menu that reads "Access to the Help", nothing else!
- VBA Rescue - (vba32rescue) - Nothing happen!
- Ubuntu MRT Rescue - /init : line 1: can't open /dev/sr0: No medium found
- Acronis Rescue - Splash screen and nothing else !
- MSSS 64 (WDO 64) Rescue - Ok requires updating signature databases
- MSSS 32 (WDO 32) Rescue - Ok requires updating signature databases
