Everything fine except "Redo Backup & Restore"

Postby makon » October 15th, 2011, 8:10 pm

Hi

first of all thanks David for this great application.

I build an usb pen drive with sardus latest beta (11) and everything is working fine.
But when i try running "Redo" it stops after hitting start normal mode, hanging in a loop at the loading screen. Hitting ESC shows following message:

Code: Select all
(process:388) GLib-WARNING **:getpwui_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)
                                                                                            stdin: error 0
Generating locales...
 en_US.UTF-8... done
Generation complete.
Using CD-ROM mount point /cdrom/
Identifying.. [various letters and numbers]
Scanning disc for index files..
Found 0 package indexes, 1 source indexes, 0 translation indexes and 0 signatures
Please provide a name for this Disc, such as  'Debian 5.0.3 Disk 1':

I reloaded the iso from their website and reintegrating it in sardu ends in the same way.
Switched to isolinux 3.x. Same as above.
At least i tried the Redo iso with MobaLive and it worked. So it has to do something with sardu.

Any more ideas what i can do?

yes i tried the iso used in sardu. It worked like it should in mobalive.
next thing i´ll try is to build a sardu stick just with redo on it.

Any clues yet what went wrong or maybe what the message could mean?

i did some "trial & error" which showed following:

Builds with variuos isos except the windows tab worked fine and Redo started properly.
Adding XP Home and Pros iso in addition with the recovery disc of xp worked fine too.
But when I add Win 7 AIO or Vista/7 repair discs, Redo starts too fail again.

Afaik 7 and Vista use the same bootloader which is different to xp. Maybe that could cause the fail.

Any ideas what i can try to make it work?

I'm having the exact same problem. Redo Backup will not boot. I get the same error message when pressing escape. I also have Windows 7 Recovery disc in the Sardu build.

Yes, and it works fine.

If I remove Windows 7 Recovery Disc from Sardu, Redo Backup boots fine. There is a conflict in Sardu when Windows 7 Recovery Disc is included.

It's simple to reproduce this problem. Build a Sardu USB with Redo Backup and Windows 7 Recovery Disc included. Redo Backup will not boot properly. Now build a Sardu USB without the Windows 7 Recovery Disc, Redo Backup boots fine.
