Re: SARDU does not detect any USB drive

Yes, the devices show up in Explorer as Removable and work fine. It is not just one device. SARDU does not detect any of the variety of 10+ USB sticks I have. It does not appear to be a problem with the devices.

On my other PC's, (Vista, XP) SARDU works fine. However, this is my main system and I would really prefer to use SARDU on it. However, there is something which apparently interferes with or prevents SARDU from properly detecting removable USB devices.

Any ideas on how I can help debug this issue?

I had this problem also, my USB was accesible in explorer formatted in FAT32 and i could read and write files, but Sardu didn´t detect it.

I solved this formatting again in FAT32 then Sardu recognized it.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for that info, but the same USB drives will detect fine with SARDU on another machine. So the only difference appears to be the machine, and perhaps something on it that interferes with SARDU.

Hello

sorry for my late reply. Iam a really big ufd and SARDU fan.
We can not really help to debug this issue. It is definitely a problem from your USB-hardware.

I moderate a big livesystem forum in germany and we have also problems to start (per example) acronis true image from a Windows(c) Multi7-Preinstall envirunment system with different sticks.
With one stick (under exactly the same conditions) works ATI15 very fine. With an other stick NOT!
Also i have problems to start a funktional PE-System with cheap and noname sticks.

My 50 Cent.
Buy "transcent" ore "Intenso"-Sticks and your problem are solved in my opinion. This sticks are cheap and full functional in all my systems and with my perfect SARDU-USB stick.
These are my experiences.
I repeat clearly: There is no problem with SARDU.

Thank you for your reply UFdFan... I appreciate you taking the time.

However, you seem to be overly confident in your analysis and conclusion. It would seem unlikely that you could possibly have all the data necessary for such absolute confidence.

For example, you say it is definitely a problem with my USB hardware? Or assume I am using "noname" USB sticks? As a matter of fact, I have many different USB flash devices, most are decent name-brand (Sandisk, PNY, Patriot, Polaroid, etc).

I absolutely do not intend to criticize SARDU here, but I am only interested in increasing its robustness and helping squash bugs. You seem to suggest there is absolutely NO possibility of a problem with SARDU?

Again, the symptom is SARDU failure to even DETECT when any USB stick is connected (on my main system... while it works on other systems). However, on this same system, the OS (Windows 7) is detecting fine. And other applications are detecting fine. So, why is SARDU not detecting? This seems a bit conspicuous, does it not?

Hello MaBo

I can only tell you my experiences.

Tell me please,

1.) if you start rmprebusb. Is your stick visible? If yes, you have to format it in fat32 with rmprebusb and the right options?
Then please deaktivate for a test the firewall, tuneuptools, av etc., and reinstall the last SARDU.

2.) All programs in your PC recognizes the stick but only SARDU not?
if yes then,
you are right! SARDU have an Error with your PC
else,
you are right! SARDU have an Error with your USB-Stick.
I not,
read my contribution again.
End

It is really a brainstorming here ... please copy SARDU to programs x86 for the test.

Yes, all my USB sticks auto-detect instantly in RMPrepUSB.

As I noted previously, if I enable "Enable Autodetection USB", I do see SARDU momentarily detect the USB, but then it 'disappears'. I have included an animated GIF below of this behavior...

Image

Also, I have no firewall, tuneuptools, or AV running. And I have reinstalled SARDU numerous times.

So, yes, all programs recognize USB sticks, but SARDU not successfully (only momentarily on "USB Autodetection" = enabled)

Thank you...

Hello MaBo

Thank's to have this brainstorming with you.
I know you had noted previously what you have done, but sometimes some user overread important points. Sorry for this and thanks for help me.

Now i think why does SARDU is not dedecting your USB-Sticks in your 64bit host PC.

You wrote:
Code: Select all
Of note - same USB drives detect successfully in SARDU on another machine.

The error is therefore only in your Win764bit Host.
Some questions more:

1.) Your other Test PC is also win764bit or a 32bit machine?

2.) How many driveletters you have in your 64bit machine?

3.) You have installed SARDU to a directly HDD-Path? (D:\SARDU)?

do you have change for a test the driveletter of your usb-stick?

So ... now another 4 points to run SARDU without building it directly in SARDU.

1.) Prepare your USB with rmprepUSB in Fat32
2.) Run SARDU and make only the ISO-file
3.) Mount this ISO with VirtualCloneDrive or other software or unpack it with 7z.
4.) copy the unpacked files to your usb stick.

Best regards and have healthy Easter with your family....

@all
Happy Easter ....... :D

Hello UFdFan,

Thank you for the discussion also. I appreciate it! And happy Easter also to you and yours!

> 1.) Your other Test PC is also win764bit or a 32bit machine?
I have tried on other Win7-64 and WinXP-32 machines

> 2.) How many driveletters you have in your 64bit machine?
C,D,T (1 SATA HDD)
J,K (2 optical)

> 3.) You have installed SARDU to a directly HDD-Path? (D:\SARDU)?

I have tried SARDU installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\SARDU" and in "C:\SARDU", with no change in behavior

> do you have change for a test the driveletter of your usb-stick?
Yes, I tried changing drive-letter of USB flash using Windows diskmgmt.msc, and no change in behavior

I have also uninstalled any programs that I could imagine might have slight chance of interfering, but no change. Only other thing I can think is to try SARDU on clean Windows 7 64 install.

NOTE: Now that I think about it, I think I recall SARDU working on this system, long time ago. Can I get access to older versions of SARDU for testing?

Hello MaBo

thank you for answer all the questions. Now I know nothing much more. Very difficult.

NOTE: Now that I think about it, I think I recall SARDU working on this system, long time ago. Can I get access to older versions of SARDU for testing?

This is a good idea for a test, but here can only help davide. I can not share his older versions from SARDU.
But i think this is not the solution. Only one machine from you is not running with USB and SARDU ..... Very difficult and strange.

Can there be a driver conflict in your machine with the USB and SARDU? I have tested today all my eight sticks:
Result:
1 SanDisk=OK
4 Transcend=OK
2 NoName=OK
1 Kinston=OK

Now two question more (please excuse me):

1.) If you put in your machine a UFD,
then start the explorer automaticaly or you start it manually?

2.) Your User Account Control is sensitiv, standard, or out?

3.) You are administrator in your userprofile for the test?
