IncrediBar?!

Postby repdroid » December 4th, 2012, 9:30 am

Hello there,

while the SARDU tool really is a great troublesaver, i just made an undesirable acquaintance with the IncrediBar toolbar setup. It seemingly gave me the option to bypass installation but then installed anyway and became very creative with my browser settings. I had to do some cleaning afterwards and do NOT like additional gifts like this.

Is this becoming a standard ingredient from now on?

SARDU is free only for personal use. No one commercial use payd. Donations are very very rare
To pay the expenses (hosting, database sql, antispam etc) I had to put ads, similar to what we have many software. User can accept or not accept. If you install flash or java they propose you the install of external software.
If begin if the income will be the first to take off.

Did you test this?
It installs even when you unchecked everything in order to avoid it.

Normally i don't have a problem with things like this if they can be deselected and i can see your problem; apart from your time, the website doesn't host itself for free. Thank you again for creating such a great tool.

Ok, i can't reproduce it right now.
I first executed SARDU on a NAS drive, where it would reside next to the ISOs i use. I didn't make screenshots, but i deselected everything i could see. I arrived at a page with a grey skip button and a green install button. It still looked like it would want to install the deselected items, so i skipped; this worked as expected. I then tried deselecting everything again and proceeded with the 'install' button - to see firefox shut down and to be greeted with new start pages, toolbars and pages when opening new tabs in Firefox and IE afterwards.

This only happened when Incredibar was offered during setup. On every test afterwards, i get other offers like plusnetwork as default search engine, messenger plus smartbar and some browser companion. The next page would show an offer for an 'optimizer pro', which i didn't see during that first install. And now it really works without installing anything extra, i have no idea what has changed. Nevertheless this sort of goodies leaves a funny taste.

I'm using SARDU since version 2.0.x and it never had a problem running like this. The Incredibar incident seems to have a different cause.
