cant make bootble usb

Postby ozziealf » August 20th, 2013, 5:36 pm

I feel really stupid.I have watched numerous youtube demonstrations and read as many help texts but i am no nearer to creating a bootable usb recovery disk than i was a week ago. My HP Notebook (windows 7 starter)has the black screen "bootmgr missing press ctl atl del" error. it has no dvd/cd capabillity but i can configure i to boot from usb. i figured that if i could access the Windows 7 repair disk I would be able to restore the bootmgr and everything would be fine. I have copies of two microsoft repair/recovery iso files which I downloaded from Microsoft. I put these files in the ISO folder in the Sardu flder which was created when i extracted the sardu files. i just cant figure how to get them and what ever else i need onto the usb. the software doesnt seem to recognise them and i cant find any way of adding them to the list of components (menu?)to be uploaded . i think i can make a usb with the sardu iso on it, but it doesnt boot in my notebook. im sure the notebook is recoverable as i am able to bypass the normal boot and operate it on the HP web. So what am i doing wrong. Would anyone like to give me a button by button list of instructions and checks to help me use this tool. Remember, all i want to do is create a bootable usb which brings up the windows 7 repair environment. I have the iso files in a local hard drive and i dont want any other tools (lets keep it really simple). gradually going nuts as i watch the midnight candles burn down....

Is everyone on summer holiday in Europe? I've muddled on a bit with this problem. I think what I needed to do was to make sure that the ios file in the ios folder in sardu has the same name as you see when you roll the cursor over the windows 7 recovery tab on the windows recovery menu. Then somehow the software recognises the file and ticks the box next to the entry. But my software doesn't do this and so I dont think the sardu suite is picking up the recovery file when it loads the usb. If all that surmise is correct, what do I do about it.

ok guys you can all stand easy, I solved the problem. There were so many quirky things about Sardu i couldnt get my head around so i tried a programe called rufus. It was a tiny download and faster than it takes to write about it. A bog simple UI required me to fill in about three boxes and bingo! bootable usb. Best part about it, with no further assistance from me it recovered my ailing notebook. So this sardu software is undoubtedly good but with no insult intended, you really should take a look at rufus, it sets a standard.
